Easter is gone, but still new releases keep appearing in our listening queues. And, as always, with some music that deserves to be in our radars. The joy of audiovisual music never stops.
We have some names that have already appeared on our previous articles of most interesting releases of the week. Marcelo Zarvos returns once more. This time with one of those films with a strong christian story, that allows him to stretch his melodic and dramatic muscle. "Breakthrough" is a story about a 14-year-old boy who drowns in a lake, while his faithful mother prays for him to come back from the brink of death and be healed. And the music is for all of those fans of good melodic music.
Benjamin Wallfisch is back again, this time with the second part for National Geographic series "Hostile Planet (Vol. 2) Jungles and Grasslands". This time music takes a more tribal and ethnic approach, but maintains its interest and quality. And french composer Bruno Coulais offer us one more example of its originality and great modern style with "Blanche Comme Neige". A comedy that creates a modern strange re-telling of Snow White that allows the composer to create a modern and very different kind of score that we could think of.
A bit of a surprise is a new release from late Johann Johannsson. This time a danish documentary about an albine black boy in a private school in Tanzania. "White Black Boy" shows us the usual modern sound of the composer but focused on his more melodic side, similar to what we enjoyed in titles like "The Mercy". And from Denmark too we have a new score from a very interesting composer: Uno Helmersson. This time with a very modern and action oriented score titled "Hacker". A kids action film in which the music travels between huning action and emotional movements. Really intense and great fun to hear.
Another young name is that of canadian Matthew O'Halloran, that this week releases his score for "The New Romantic". A juvenile romantic drama about a girl frustrated with the lack of chivalrous guys her own age, a college senior that gives up on dating for love. The music is modern, with a lot of rhythm, but not very melodic or romantic. Offering more of a canvas in which the story develops. Much more classic and active is Nathan Whitehead first AAA videogame score. "Days Gone", follows the adventures of Deacon St. John, a former outlaw-turned-drifter and bounty hunter who prefers life on the road to wilderness encampments. An action-adventure survival horror game set in a post-apocalyptic open world, played from a third-person perspective. A very expansive action score that will make many fans enjoy the story.
And finally we have the return of Harry Gregson-Williams with one more collaboration for a Disneynature film. "Penguins" follows Steve, an Adélie penguin, on a quest to find a life partner and start a family. And with it, score offers a lot of adventure, action and melodic music, that will make more classical score fans enjoy!
